Requiem for a Black Rooster

Joyce is a gentle soul, I think we’ll all agree, kind and loving but we all have our limits and it isn’t wise to test hers, which is what the black rooster had been doing practically from the get-go by harassing the hens.  Red rooster tried to keep him at bay but he couldn’t protect all 15 or so hens when they were scattered around the place.  One hen in particular black rooster made life miserable for.  Finally Joyce had enough, gave Chris the go ahead and so it was black rooster wound up in the cook pot. Sunday snow

First snow – November 16, 2014

Just like last Sunday, it is snowing and blowing here today.  The weather weenies say the snow won’t amount to anything, though, and while the next few nights will be disagreeably cold, the days won’t be bad, maybe even nice.  That would mean them Wiley girls can get out to run and play.  Thanksgiving is forecast to be in the mid-60’s.  We’re getting pretty dry despite the little bit of snow.  There hasn’t been a decent amount of  moisture in several weeks. Joyce cooked a big pot of beans, then left town, which was wise.   She went to Plainview to help out with Max and Juanita, her brother and sister-in-law, both of whom are not well.  She will probably have to go back for a couple of nights this coming week.  She still ministers to her flock here — cats, chickens, husband and other animals.  Fortunately she isn’t gone long and gets back in time to arrest our slide into pathos.
