October 2018 was the fourth wettest month in the last nine years, according to my records, exceeded only by May and July of 2015, the year we totaled 37.78 inches, and August of last year. I emptied a total of 7.53 inches out of the rain gauge for the month, which is slightly more than our October average of 1.92. The trees better take a long, cool drink. We never know when we’ll get moisture again. Continue reading “October wrap”

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving on SA was pleasant. Good weather, lots of good food and no melt downs. Combine that with a Cowboys win and it would be hard to improve on that. Continue reading “Thanksgiving”
Birthdays
Celebrating September/October birthdays has been a challenge this year. It was simple enough with Vivian. Jill made a cake, we sang happy birthday and Vivian opened presents. But Rebecca and Joyce were another matter. Rebecca’s was on Monday, October 3 when we were still in Garland. We got home that afternoon but Monday is an odd time to celebrate a birthday so the plan was to combine Li’l r’s with Joyce’s the following Sunday. We did manage to squeeze it in Sunday afternoon between other activities so they got their cake and all but I still haven’t gotten a present for Joyce. She just waves me off when I suggest doing so. Blow off
It doesn’t seem like this is the most colorful fall we’ve ever had, and maybe not as colorful as normal, not that this part of the world is known for its fall color. Or maybe the color is just later than some years. We drove up to Canadian with the Shewberts Friday and there wasn’t any of the cottonwood color we’ve seen there on previous trips, though their cottonwood festival was several weeks ago and may there was more of a show then. There is a restaurant in Canadian in an old bank building that is worth the drive. Their menu is fairly extensive and not cheap but everything we’ve had there has been very good. They have some scrumptious rolls and they serve a complimentary bread pudding dessert made from yesterday’s leftover rolls. I highly recommend it next time you are in Canadian.
