We made it through February chilled but mostly intact. There were some very windy days and some calm days. Those nice February days are hard to beat. Joyce’s apricot trees bloomed and were promptly frozen for their trouble. Maybe next year. Continue reading “March”

Mid-Feb
It has been quiet here on SA the last couple of weeks. The Zbindens minus Chris (so far) have each taken a turn with the stomach virus going around. It knocks them down for a day or two but they bounce back. There apparently is a lot of flu going around as well but so far we’ve eluded it. It has been reported that Sophia missed school Valentine’s Day because she was sick. Valentine’s Day is important to you when you are in the second grade. Sophia did get her bag of treats, though, I’m told. Continue reading “Mid-Feb”
Sydney
In the year 2000 Kari and Chris made a trip to Costa Rica. We had been there in February the year before, using my 50th birthday the previous July as the excuse. This was pre-A&R and they only had Harley and Max to board in a kennel while they were gone. After the trip Kari was on her way to pick up Harley and Max from the kennel which is why she was driving down Mockingbird Lane in Dallas and thus chanced to see a very small kitten trying to climb the curb to get out of the street. She stopped and I remember her telling me she blocked traffic so she could corral the kitten before it got mashed. Continue reading “Sydney”
Volleyball again
Abigail’s hiatus from playing volleyball has ended and she was back in action last weekend. She still practiced in the areas of the game where jumping was required during that time. The doctor cleared her for full participation week before last and the time off and physical therapy she had cleared up the pain in her knee, which was from overuse. Guinea returns
There was a knock on the front door Saturday afternoon. A woman who said she lived in Quadrille was driving down our street and saw a guinea fowl. Knowing that we had guineas, she stopped to let us know one was at large. It was across the street on the Mock place when I saw it and it immediately went around the fence on to the Elliot place. I herded it toward the street thinking I would get it onto SA through our gate. Once it crossed the street, though, it seemed to recognize where it was and headed down the fence line to the 2005 driveway. After a few back and forths it made it through/under the gate and seemed very glad to be home. Joyce was just as glad and offered it some stale bread, a favorite of the wanderer. No doubt it kept the chickens spellbound that night in the chicken house with tales of its adventure.
