Chris and I were both out of town this week when the blizzard hit. Our women folk were left to face the elements alone. As it was, they were able to hunker down until Wednesday but then they had to get the Abster and Little R to school. Joyce shoveled our driveway in case Kari couldn’t get out but Kari was able to navigate the drifts.
Much thawing took place by the time I got home Thursday but there was and is still lots of snow around. While eating lunch after getting home Thursday I watched a couple of foxes gamboling about the place apparently enjoying the snow. Connecticut also had big piles of snow where it was plowed off the streets and parking lots but it didn’t snow any to speak of while I was there. It did rain, though, but it was warm enough to not freeze. Having concluded my business there I was on my way to the airport Thursday at 4:15 a.m. to catch a 6:10 flight. I slept enough on my way to Dallas that I don’t remember much about that leg of the trip. On the flight from Dallas to Amarillo it was interesting to see the snow that turned the countryside white once the caprock came into view.
Betsy invited me to dinner Sunday evening. She invited my colleague Peter from Michigan but he declined. He always declines because he goes to bed with the chickens, I think. Anyway, I always enjoy the dinners at the Andrews’ and this time was no exception. They also took me out to dinner Tuesday night because they thought I might be upset over a little dust up during one of our meetings. I wasn’t and I enjoyed the filet mignon and scollops immensely. Then, of course, there was the annual meeting dinner on Wednesday evening. That just leaves Monday evening when I dined on clam chowder at the bar at Max Fish. Their chowder alone is worth the trip.
Friday we spent the evening at 2005 with Abigail, Rebecca and Tino the dog. Chris didn’t get home until late and Kari was whoopin’ it up with her buddies to celebrate a birthday or something. Joyce brought in Italian take-out and we watched a movie after dinner. Joyce stayed later while I slithered on home to bed. I was still a little hung over from my trip to New England.
Saturday was a beautiful day, especially in the afternoon. Clear skies and little wind. I’d planned to trim the grapevines if the weather permitted. It did and I got the job done though it took all day. When I say all day I mean from 10:30 to nearly 4 with a few minutes out for lunch. I spent a couple of hours after breakfast on taxes. I’m please to report that they are 95% done. I have to wait on an OID, whatever that is, to finish. But I did finish the vine trimming. I had a couple of other little jobs planned as well but the vines took up all my time so the others will have to wait.
