Joyce and I were alarmed to get a text from Kari Saturday morning saying there was a peeping Tom on SA. There was no other information so we kept on with our rat killing. Later Kari texted the picture at left, a Texas brown tarantula on a ramble attempting to climb over 2005.
The experience was so horrifying it aged Abigail 75 years.
Earlier in the week, we went to Abigail’s volleyball game. Have I mentioned that eighth-grade girls seem a lot bigger than seventh-grade girls. Abigail played well in a loosing effort. Kari and Chris were told by her coaches at a meeting of parents of students involved in athletics that the Abster had improved a lot since last season, her club volleyball helping her make that jump.
Once again we were promised a biblical flood Friday/Friday night and Saturday, but all we got was one shower of about half an inch. That’s okay, though. It remains cloudy and relatively cool so that moisture isn’t wasted. In fact, the weather we’ve been having is just about ideal to get the vegetation in good shape going into the cold months. We do miss the sun, though. Oh, and I must have dreaming when I said I hoped I wouldn’t have to mow again after going over the whole place this past week. There will be another round, at least. Place looks good for now.
One of Joyce’s friends gave her a bicycle Joyce hoped Kari could use. Kari told her she would like to have a bike she could use to go riding with Li’l r. The bike was a fairly nice girl’s mountain bike, lightly used but unfortunately too small for Kari. Turns out, however, it isn’t too big for Rebecca. She jumped on it Saturday afternoon and off she went.
Some of the PVC in the catchment system at Wildcat Bluff was broken and Chris was gracious enough to repair it Saturday afternoon with my help. It took less than two hours to do once we collected the needed materials and the executive director and one of the board members who was present were so grateful.
There was a bar-b-q and bingo night at the church and we elderly enjoyed ourselves immensely. Joyce won a Red Lobster gift card and a “cooking light” cookbook. She gave the cookbook away since we don’t eat light.
Joyce learned at the gardening course we took last winter to plant some tomatoes in July for fall tomatoes. They are producing nicely.
