It’s a busy time for Abigail and her mom.  They’ve been occupied with volleyball tournaments the last several weekends and have a couple more to go.  A week ago I went with them to one in Lubbock.  It started first thing Sunday morning so we drove down Saturday evening and stayed in a motel.  By the time we got checked in and squared away, it was dinner time so went in search of a restaurant.  We finally wound up at a place called Jazz.  It was one of Jill’s favorites back in the day and we enjoyed some tasty and spicy cajun-style seafood, or swamp food as the case may be.

The Abster’s team played up again and didn’t win any games but they held their own as best the could against older girls.  This last weekend they got to take their revenge when they played down.  Their first set was against younger and smaller girls and they treated them about the way they older girls they played treated them.  The second set was against girls their own age, or at least Abigail’s age, but they looked younger to me.  Not smaller, just younger.  They handled them, too.

Sunday Rebecca wanted to ride her bicycle without the training wheels so we went out in the pasture and had a go.  She finally began to get the hang of it and even managed take off from a dead stop unassisted a time or two.  She was most gratified.  It isn’t easy for a beginner to ride in the grass but the grass is more forgiving than concrete when things don’t go as planned.

This is where I complain about the weather.  After what seemed like endless cold, we finally got some really nice days, but no rain.  The ground is so dry the dirt is developing to a layer of powdery dust.  The fronts that come through are getting grittier as a result.  Saturday afternoon Li’l r and I played board games on the patio, it was that calm and pleasant so we take the good with the bad like everybody else, I guess.

We got in a little golf last week.  It was one of those wonderful days, or at least the afternoon was.  This was only our second outing this year.

I’ve been watering trees on the more agreeable days.  It’s a lot of work to move the water every 30 minutes but what are you going to do.  I just hope they respond and start looking a little better when warm weather gets here.
