Since we have four birthdays to celebrate in July we play them for all they are worth. Abigail’s (July 7) comes first and we celebrated that one early since they would be in Grand Cayman on her birthday. Then we get to the BIG THREE toward the end of the month, Kari and me on the 25th and Chris on the 26th. That being Monday and Tuesday we partied on Sunday. There were cakes and cards and presents, oh my. On Monday Kari treated me to a trip to the bookstore where I got to pick out a book as her present to me and then we had refreshment. On Tuesday Jill and I did sort of the same thing. We went to the lawnmower store where she bought me the folding limb saw I coveted, then more refreshment. It was sort of hard to go back to days without refreshments after that.
It is a cool and cloudy day so far. I say so far because if the clouds disperse it will quickly warm up to what we’ve become accustomed to this summer. We had a little shower a couple of days ago which gave us .16 of inch, enough to wash some of the dust off things. That gives us 1.48 inches for the month and 7.42 inches for the year. That’s better than the 6.26 during the drought year of 2011 but not much. There’s still time to accumulate something closer to a typical year but I’m not optimistic. Looking on the bright side, we aren’t troubled by mosquitoes.
The little girls opened two restaurants underneath the trees on the south end. This morning was their grand opening. I ordered the cheese stick and can’t remember when I ate a tastier one. Sophia said she wasn’t competing with the Rebecca and Kaylee cafe. They are friends and offer similar menus, though she thought her food was a little better.
Jill, Kari, Joyce and the girls went to see Texas at Palo Duro Canyon last night. I haven’t gotten a report on how they enjoyed it, just that Jill’s car wouldn’t start when it was time to head home. A kindly gentleman gave them a jump and this morning I tightened up the battery cable so all is well, we hope.
Now for some whining and complaining: I’m looking forward to cool fall weather. I know, I know. I was looking forward to warm weather all the way into May. But, sheesh, enough is enough. I know other parts of the country have suffered worse than we have, but we, or that is, I have suffered all I care to. I don’t look forward to the hard winter months and I hear that the La Nina effect will bring more than usual cold weather. But something between that and a blistering summer would be nice.
Otherwise all goes well on SA. Those who can, stay under the AC and catch up on their rest.
