A YouTube video about Ra Paulette, the man behind the cave we visited in the pictures above.
On the drive home from Red River we encountered rain, sometimes a lot of it, from just south of Springer practically to Amarillo. It followed us home and after giving us a chance to unload the car, it began a gentle but steady drizzle that, along with some heavier episodes, totaled 1.7 inches of much needed moisture.
Gary and I enjoyed a couple of golf outings and the four of us took a couple of sightseeing trips to southern Colorado. We visited the caves mentioned above and another day we visited the Great Sand Dune National Park. I didn’t realize there was such a place. It is impressive and it would be interesting to spend some time there.
While in the area, we visited Jack Dempsey’s boyhood home in Manassa, Colorado. In between golf and sightseeing we had some pleasant downtime. The weather was nice enough, except form some short periods of strong wind.
While we were gone the next to the last guinea met its end after not showing up for bed check one night. That leaves just one, a male from the original group. It will be interesting to see how he copes. Joyce would like for him and Jack Black the rooster to become best buds and spend their nights together in guinea tower. That would relieve the tension in the hen house at night with both roosters in close proximity. Rojo rooster kicks Jack’s tail every chance he gets.
Abigail made the 8th grade volleyball team. She didn’t take anything for granted and practiced with her Jet club volleyball team during the summer. We’re looking forward to the games.
It will be time to harvest the wine grapes this week, what’s left of them. The dang birds got at them last week in spite of the netting we draped over them. It might not hurt to leave them on the vines a little longer if I thought there would be anything left. The birds, however, are forcing my hand. I’ll be glad to get them picked and the wine-making process started.
