Rebecca used some of her hard-earned money to invest in a rip-stick. All the kids at her school have them, you see. Kari spoke of practically being run over by kids riding them as she walked up the sidewalk to the building to collect Rebecca after school one day. She insists Li’l r won’t be running people off the sidewalk with hers like the hooligans in her school. Rebecca and I went up to the rail trail so she would have plenty of room to get the hang of her new possession. I resisted all temptations to try it myself. It wasn’t that hard. All I had to do was think of the explanation I would have to make at the emergency room.
I swear, that Abigail. She sank a 3-pointer that was nothing but net in the game Friday evening. She told us Saturday that in speaking to the team after the game, her coach said there were three points she wanted to make: they needed to work on their defense; they needed to work on their ball handling; and ABIGAIL MADE A 3-POINTER! Her team won the game handily.
After the game we joined Kari and Abigail at Tascosa to watch the Tascosa-Amarillo High joint production of West Side Story. I hadn’t been in that auditorium for nearly half a century and it brought back memories, not all of them bad. As for the play, it was entertaining, sort of. Joyce liked it. That’s not an easy production to put on. The lad playing the male lead (Tony) struggled with voice control but sounded good when he sounded good. The young lady playing Maria had a beautiful voice which she had full command of. The person in the front row with the toddler that kept verbalizing as toddlers will throughout the play deserves a reprimand. Maybe there was a good reason the child wasn’t removed but it was distracting to listen to its gibberish especially during the more poignant moments, you know, like when Maria is kneeling over Tony who lies dying after Tino shot him. Oh Tony, blah, blah, blah, gibber, gibber, gibber.
Doc and I teamed up to take down a dead elm in the east lane. It was a good sized tree but we managed it without either of us getting mashed. We did drop a big limb on the east fence, which did it no good, but can be repaired. We piled up a lot of firewood which will come in handy this cold, dark and long winter.
The Wylies are scheduled to arrive this (Sunday) evening to spend Thanksgiving with us. It should be a lively around here all week. The weather is forecast to be nice leading up to Thanksgiving; not so much after. I think I’ll take the week off.
