Joyce and I have been suffering from upper respiratory failure since getting back from Garland. While it hasn’t kept us in bed, it has slowed us down considerably. That’s okay, though, because the weather has been lousy. Other than a mild afternoon Tuesday, it has been cold and/or windy. Joyce finally got to the grocery store Thursday where she encountered people complaining about the weather. And why wouldn’t they. After the balmy Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday never got above 20 degrees. Me, I prefer to accept that January and February are unpleasant here on the high plains and any nice days that come along should be appreciated for the anomalies they are.
Since we have hunkered down all week, there isn’t much news to report. We’ve avoided the neighbors so as not to afflict them. Abigail did come down to say hello Sunday but only stayed long enough to score a treat. Needless to say, I didn’t make it out to Wildcat Bluff to continue my improvements.
Now we did get out yesterday to go to Abigail’s basketball game. It struck me that Abigail had grown taller compared to her teammates over Christmas. I mentioned that to Kari and she said everybody is saying that. In fact, one of her teammates named Sammy was just a shade taller than Abigail at the start of the season and now she is shorter. And guess who was out there for the tipoff. That would be my favorite teenager and she easily won the tip. Otherwise, the team seemed a little flat. They beat Horace Mann 20-13 but, as the score indicates, it was a defensive struggle. Neither team shot well. Abigail reverted to her old way of passing the ball instead of taking a shot and had no attempts when there were clearly some she should have taken. Both teams played pretty good defense and there were a lot of takeaways on both sides. Crockett jumped out to a 9-0 lead early but from then on it was back and forth.
SA was covered with snow when we got home Saturday. We didn’t encounter any abnormal road conditions until approaching the city limits. Even then I40 was clear of snow. However, the sides street weren’t but there wasn’t enough to impede us. There was enough, though, to make the place look pretty and give us a little moisture, maybe half an inch.
I agree. I consider Jan/Feb the price we pay for our delightful summer evenings and mornings.
