In spite of excellent indian summer weather, we had no trick-or-treaters Halloween evening, not even the neighbors.  I would probably have given away every bit of candy we had if this person had shown up on our doorstep demanding treats.Superhero The Black Widow

Joyce and Kari are on a milk fast.  They have been subsisting on nothing but milk for a week now and plan to continue for another week or so.  This is suppose to be good for what ails you.  I’m told there is also a beer fast.  Much as I like beer, I think I would have a hard time drinking a cold one first thing in the morning.  Maybe I could do a half-fast and just drink beer after the sun gets over the yardarm.  Continue reading “Indian summer”

When whoever’s in New England is through with you…

It was late when my plane landed at Bradley Field near Hartford so I didn’t get see any foliage as we flew over the area.  The next morning as I drove to the office it seemed like there wasn’t much color.  To my surprise, the three days I was there there was a tremendous amount of change so that by the time I left the foliage was beautiful under clear, blue skies.  New England is hard to beat this time of year. No rain

There was good chance of rain Friday night and severe weather, too.  We got neither, unless you call a wetting rain.  I guess I shouldn’t complain.  There was a chance of tornadoes, too. Continue reading “No rain”

Scrub jays

There are scrub jays about.  At least I think that’s what they are.  Could be Mexican jays.  Anyway, they are pretty and interesting.  Looks like our hummers have decamped for a warmer clime.  They need to since it got down into the 30’s  last night.Western scrub jay      We lost another guinea the other night.  Chris is hatching out keats and in the wee hours one morning he decided the one in the incubator that had hatched the afternoon before was looking listless and needed to be moved to where he could have food and water.  Chris didn’t want to put it in with the bigger keats so he put it in a box by itself.  He needed a source of warmth so he decided to borrow the light from guinea tower.
