Last rain we got was on the 4th of July. Chris claims we got half an inch. I’ll have to take his word for it since we were in Red River. Since then, hot and dry. Changing into work clothes in the shop I already feel damp and that changes to drenched once out in the sun and working. I particularly like the feel of beads of sweat rolling down my back
So we had a wonderful time in Red River. The weather was excellent. It would cloud up and cool off a little in the afternoon but it never rained, which was fine with us though the residents thought the place was getting a little too dry. They said bears were coming down the mountains and wandering around town because it was so dry. I didn’t see any but I have no reason to doubt it.
Since we did have a spell of rain in late June and early July, the place was nice and green for our 4th of July celebration (on the 1st this year). It was also green on Easter. I can’t recall that being the case before. It might have been but I think it is unusual.
Apparently the wet spell mentioned above put the frogs in an amorous mood. We have a new crop of little hoppers. I still don’t know how that happens. I don’t think those from last year are mature enough for breeding and I never see any frogs of the size (and thus age) that I think would be old enough. Obviously there are some and there should be more as last year’s hatch and again this year’s hatch reach sexual maturity. We may be knee deep in frogs in a few years.
Abigail and I have had three driving sessions this summer. The first two were spent out on the Dick Bivins Stadium parking lot but the last one we drove around the neighborhood a little and practiced getting in and out of the driveway. Our program has been interrupted by their trip to Switzerland but we’ll get back to it when she gets back.
When we got back from Red River I was way behind on the mowing. I’ve caught back up on that now, except for the trimming. That will give me something to do next week. Abigail has been assisting me this summer by cleaning up twigs. The elm trees keep up a constant drizzle and other kinds of trees contribute now and then. Twigs will dull the mower so I have to clean up an area before I can mow it. It has been a nice time saver to have that done for me.
A young female-type person showed up at the Bluff to do some volunteer work this week. She was an attractive young lady who will be a junior at Tascosa this fall. She was dressed the way Abigail dresses when she works around the place, meaning there is an awful lot of hide showing. There are way too many things out at the Bluff that bite, scratch and poke to leave ones punkin self so vulnerable, style be damned. I don’t know what this person’s motivation was or whether she will be back but we take any help we can get.
