Las Vegas

It was hot in Las Vegas last week, where Joyce and spent several days.  ICS asked me to visit a customer there that was asking for user training.  People at ICS were taking vacations during August when the customer wanted to schedule the training, and with ICS running shorthanded, they turned to me.  I was glad to help and Joyce was glad to go along for the fun of it.

We left Monday morning and took the scenic route through Dallas and Oklahoma City.  Fortunately we didn’t have to change planes in OC, only in Dallas.  Our hotel was located within easy walking distance to the customer site but, unfortunately, it wasn’t in a casino.  When I left for work the next morning, Joyce had to take a cab to a casino.  It was hot enough to scald your eyeballs, as one might expect this time of year, so taking a cab was the only reasonable way to travel.  When Joyce got to the casino she found there were only a few hold-overs from the night before and not much happening.  Also, the slots being stingy.  She had hoped she could walk to other casinos from the one she took a cab to but found that between the heat and the traffic that just wasn’t feasible.  She wound up taking another cab back to the hotel and that was the last of her gambling for this trip.

At first she thought the lack of opportunity to fleece the casinos would make for a dull trip but it turned out OK because she was able to rest up in the hotel and we had several nice dinners that made the trip worthwhile.

As for the two days I spent with the customer, it went pretty well.  I had some trepidation because, after all, I’ve been away from ICS for four years.  However, the people I worked with were pleasant and, as time went by, things came back to me so that I was able function satisfactorily and not embarrass ICS.
