JET Avenger team
Tournament in Lubbock February 1, 2015

At her basketball game Wednesday, Abigail went on a tear, scoring seven baskets. Since her team won 32-10, she accounted for nearly half her team’s points. She wasn’t sure how many shots she took but we estimated she shot 60-70% from the field. She even got her name in the paper for the top scorer city-wide in her eighth-grade girls silver category. Unfortunately, due to a schedule mix up, we arrived late and only saw the last few minutes of the game. We did get to see rise above the scrum under the basket, pull down a rebound and go back up for the dunk. Well, maybe she didn’t dunk it but she did make the bucket. It was exciting.

There have been two or three unauthorized cats around lately and since she has to keep them shooed away while her authorized wild cats eat, Joyce encouraged me to go after them with my cat shooter. I was a little rusty so I missed my first few shots but then I nailed one good. I didn’t expect it to come back anytime soon but in less than an hour it was, trying to get in on the feast. I guess its hunger overcame its fear. It’s a shame to mistreat an animal, especially a hungry one but what are you gonna do? The cat population in the neighborhood is getting a little out of hand.

Kari, Abigail and I spent about 24 hours in Lubbock over Saturday and Sunday at a volleyball tournament.  Abigail’s team the Avengers went five and one in pool play Saturday but didn’t fare wall on Sunday.  Still, the wins on Saturday were more than they were used to and, until Sunday, they felt pretty good about things.  We enjoyed a late dinner with a couple of teammates and their families Saturday evening.  It had rained Friday or Saturday and the parking lot at the Courts of Lubbock where the tournament was played was a swamp.  I was there in a support capacity, sort of an appliance, there when needed and otherwise unobtrusive, so upon arrival I would drop the ladies at the front door, park the car and wade through the parking lot, then reverse that order when leaving.

Rebecca was at my house when I got home.  When I came in the door she told me Grandma had washed her hair.  Turns out between bath Saturday night and church Sunday morning, Li’l r washed her hair with gosh knows what.  Joyce said it looked pretty bad when Rebecca came to visit Sunday afternoon so Grandma took matters in hand so Li’l r’s mom wouldn’t get a case of the fantods when she got home.
