What better way to end the regular season than with a match-up between Abigail’s undefeated Crockett Pioneers and the likewise undefeated Bears of Austin Middle School. Crockett took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter only to have it melt away like snow in Texas. Austin pulled to within a point with less than two minutes on the clock. It looked like this hard-fought game would come down to one shot. Which team would sink the game winner. Fortunately a girl name Baily (sp?) stepped up for Crockett by drilling one outside the 3-point line (they don’t award 3 points at this level). She added two more buckets before time ran out to give Crockett a 24-18 win. The game was much closer than that score indicates. On to the city tournament.

Galveston

It was warm under a sunny sky when we got back to Garland Saturday. Our return was delayed by a day due to icy conditions in Houston Friday morning when we originally planned to start home from Galveston. As planned, we had visited some of the attractions Tuesday and Wednesday, both of which were pleasant days. The only time we ventured out Friday when it was cold and windy was for dinner Friday evening. Continue reading “Galveston”
Guinea foul

One day this week some dogs got onto the place and one, a basset hound, got a hold of one of the guineas, the whitish one. I’m surprised a basset hound could catch a guinea but other than the loss of some feathers it was not injured. It did spend the rest of the day and much of the next in guinea tower sulking. It eventually emerged, though, and seems none the worse for wear.
2013 wrap

It seems longer than a week since New Year’s Eve. Ours was celebrated with the Wylie women and Dave at their estate in Garland. If there are two bigger sticks-in-the-mud when it comes to a New Year’s Eve celebration than Joyce and me, I’d hate to be around them. It has been over a decade since we tried to greet the new year, longer since we even wanted to. The only one still up at midnight was Dave, and that’s normal for him. We enjoyed the evening anyway.
