These shots were taken Saturday morning, August 26, 2017 between about 10:00 and, oh, maybe 10:45. It was the first time in days that the sun was out before noon
It’s been mushroom weather this month, let me tell you. Only nine of the 26 days so far this month have been without some rain. The grass and weeds have prospered. I can mow and it stays looking freshly mowed for only a couple of days. Not only the vegetation but the mosquitos have prospered as well. We all do the old slap and tickle when we’re outside, pretty comical when we’re together trying to have a conversation. So far we’ve gotten 7.78 inches on good ‘ol SA which is over three times the average for August over the last nine years. It looks like we may be dry the next week or so. I wouldn’t complain if we were.
Joyce nearly had to take to her fainting couch when we got back from breakfast one Saturday morning recently and she saw the tarantula above digging a burrow between the garage and flower bed. I’ve read the females can lift 10-20 years. The males have to go acourtin’ which makes them vulnerable to predation so they don’t live that long.
Rebecca will be playing the viola in the school orchestra. The conductor is the Tascosa orchestra director.
Abigail has spent the last three weekends with her volleyball team playing tournaments in the Dallas area. Last Tuesday they played Canyon High in the Tascosa gym. Canyon won the first two games in a three-out-of-five format and things were looking grim but them Rebels rallied to win the next three and take the set. It was pretty exciting and good entertainment since they won.
You’ll recall Sydney the cat that passed away a few months ago. Friday there was a cat that looked remarkably like a younger version of Sydney out in our front yard, or maybe it was Sydney, I don’t know.
